Sweet & Spiced Hot Cross Buns

A close-up of a single hot cross bun, revealing its tender crumb and delicate glaze.

Is there anything more iconic for an Easter breakfast or brunch than a warm, glazed Hot Cross Bun? These delightful buns, made with a harmonious blend of brown and white sugar and a hint of nutmeg, offer a perfect balance of sweetness and subtle spice. When halved and generously spread with butter, they become an utterly irresistible treat that will be devoured quickly.

What makes these hot cross buns truly exceptional is their incredible ease of preparation. You can assemble the entire pan the night before Easter, allow them to rise slowly in the refrigerator overnight, and then simply pop them into the oven on Easter morning. This overnight method ensures you wake up to the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread without any morning rush, leaving you more time to enjoy the holiday with your loved ones.

Effortless Hard-Boiled Eggs: Perfect for Dyeing and Deviled Eggs

Easter often means dyeing eggs, which, while fun, can lead to the dreaded peeling challenge later. Say goodbye to frustrating, stuck shells with these two foolproof, easy-to-peel hard-cooked egg methods: one for the stovetop and another for the Instant Pot. Both techniques rely on steaming the eggs, which magically makes the shells practically slip right off.

While my Instant Pot holds a special place in my kitchen, I find myself increasingly favoring the stovetop steaming method for its simplicity and excellent results. I use this precise method for my beloved classic deviled eggs recipe and for crafting the perfect egg salad sandwich. Prepare your eggs with confidence this Easter, knowing they’ll be easy to peel whether you’re making colorful decorations or creating creamy, tangy appetizers.

Festive Easter Brunch Punch: Philadelphia Fish House Punch

Elevate your Easter brunch with a showstopping communal drink that’s sure to impress your guests. If you’ve never attempted a “house” punch before, this is the perfect occasion to start! I wholeheartedly recommend the legendary Philadelphia Fish House Punch. This historic and remarkably refreshing concoction is a sophisticated blend of brandy, cognac, and rum, balanced by the bright zest of fresh lemon juice and a touch of simple syrup. It’s an ideal choice for entertaining a crowd.

Preparing a large batch of punch allows you to enjoy the festivities without constantly playing bartender. Simply mix the ingredients ahead of time and let your guests serve themselves from a beautiful punch bowl, perhaps adorned with a decorative ice ring. This punch is not just a drink; it’s a conversation starter and a memorable addition to any holiday gathering, offering a taste of tradition with every sip.

Overnight Brioche Cinnamon Buns

Imagine waking up to the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon buns! With these Overnight Brioche Cinnamon Buns, that dream becomes a reality. Buttermilk Blueberry Breakfast Cake

A true fan favorite, this Buttermilk Blueberry Breakfast Cake has consistently been one of the most popular recipes on my site for over a decade. Its tender crumb and burst of juicy blueberries make it an ideal choice for a celebratory breakfast or brunch. It’s simple to prepare and offers a delightful, comforting sweetness that perfectly complements the fresh flavors of spring. Enjoy it warm, perhaps with a dollop of whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Overnight French Toast Bake

Prepare to be amazed by the easiest French toast you will ever make – and quite possibly one of the best! This overnight baked French toast delivers a delightful contrast: a wonderfully crisp exterior gives way to a rich, custardy interior. It emerges from the oven piping hot, ready to be adorned with a generous drizzle of maple syrup, fresh fruit, a dusting of powdered sugar, or all three for ultimate decadence.

Recently, I elevated this recipe even further by using homemade brioche, and the results were truly exceptional. The beauty of this dish lies in its make-ahead convenience, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely Easter morning without last-minute fuss.

Showstopping Easter Dinner Mains

Planning the main course for Easter dinner can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Compared to the often laborious roast turkey, a baked ham offers a wonderfully stress-free experience. For starters, there’s no need for brining or extensive marinating. Most importantly, since hams are typically sold pre-cooked, your main task is simply to heat it through to perfection, allowing you to relax and enjoy the holiday. You can find all my expert baked ham tips here, ensuring a juicy and flavorful result every time.

This year, our family will be enjoying a magnificent brown sugar glazed ham, served alongside my grandmother’s legendary mustard sauce – truly the best complement to any ham. A pro tip: be sure to save that ham bone! It’s the secret ingredient for making a deeply flavorful batch of split pea and ham soup, a comforting post-holiday meal that makes the most of your leftovers.

Alice Waters’s Potato Gratin (Scalloped Potatoes)

Just like at Thanksgiving and Christmas, Easter dinner simply isn’t complete without a generous serving of Alice Waters’s potato gratin, also known as classic scalloped potatoes. This exquisite dish has been a cherished fixture at nearly every large holiday gathering in my family for as long as I can remember. Its rich creaminess and tender potatoes, baked to golden perfection, often manage to steal the spotlight, no matter if it’s served alongside succulent turkey, savory ham, or tender lamb. It’s a comforting, elegant, and utterly delicious side that embodies the spirit of festive feasting.

Fresh Salads & Flavorful Sides for Your Easter Table

With an Easter table often laden with rich and hearty main courses, a simple yet vibrant green salad serves as a refreshing contrast and a welcome palate cleanser. I’ve recently fallen in love with this bright and tangy lemon vinaigrette. Its light and zesty character perfectly complements a fresh spring salad, composed of tender mixed greens, delicately shaved carrots and radishes, crumbled feta cheese, and crunchy walnuts. This combination offers a delightful texture and flavor profile that brightens up the entire meal.

Irresistible Easter Desserts

End your Easter feast on a high note with a dessert that will leave a lasting impression. From a classic carrot cake reimagined to rich cheesecakes and delightful tortes, these sweet endings are the perfect culmination of a festive meal. Each recipe offers a unique flavor and texture, ensuring there’s a perfect treat for every preference.

The Ultimate Carrot Cake: A Family Favorite, Perfected

I recently revisited and perfected an old carrot cake recipe that has always been a personal favorite but had, perhaps, become a little overlooked in the archives. I’ve updated it with precise weight measurements, streamlined the mixing process for ease, and adapted it to be baked in a convenient 9×13-inch pan, moving away from the traditional two 8-inch rounds. To top it all off, I frosted it with my absolute favorite whipped cream-cream cheese frosting, the same one I use for my popular one-bowl birthday cake.

The result? This carrot cake was every bit as moist, flavorful, and utterly delicious as I remembered, if not more so. My family devoured it, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for your Easter celebration. It’s a comforting classic made even better, promising a delightful sweet ending to your holiday meal.

Artisan Breads for Your Easter Table

Freshly baked bread is a staple for any holiday table, and Easter is no exception. While I have a particular fondness for soft, individual rolls, it’s hard to surpass the incredible effort-to-reward ratio of my overnight, refrigerator focaccia. This recipe truly is a game-changer – remarkably easy to prepare with minimal hands-on time, yet yielding a spectacularly delicious, airy, and flavorful bread that everyone will adore. Its crisp crust and soft interior make it perfect for soaking up gravies or simply enjoying with a touch of olive oil.

However, if you’re inclined to bake rolls, both of the recipes featured below are no-knead, making them wonderfully approachable for bakers of all skill levels. The dough for both can be prepared well in advance and conveniently stashed in the fridge until you’re ready to bake, providing maximum flexibility for your holiday schedule. Last Christmas, I made the buttermilk pull-apart rolls slightly larger by dividing the dough into 20 portions instead of 24. This larger size proved to be absolutely perfect for constructing hearty leftover ham sandwiches the next day!

Their delicate herb flavor makes them an excellent accompaniment to any savory dish.

Description

In my family, this mustard sauce is as essential as the ham on the holiday table. It takes no time to whisk together, and it is so nice to have on hand for leftover ham sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Place a strainer over a medium-sized bowl (able to hold about 2 cups of liquid). Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil while monitoring closely and stirring often. As soon as the mixture comes to boil, pour it through the strainer into the bowl. Let cool, then cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge.
